The Sweet Lips Theater Company has booked their final run of comedy shows featuring all six original members of the talented but somewhat deranged group. Sweet Lips’ newest production entitled “The Last Dance with the Whole Shebang” is intended to be exactly that. It’s a final run of comedy with Harry Porfilio returning after a three year absence and David Bell after a one year hiatus and an ongoing battle with dementia. Jim and Cheri Marks have become grandparents and plan to devote more time to breast-feeding after this run of shows. Pat Enright and Dennis Sutliff complete the cast as the only remaining members of the group who have completely avoided the effects of father time physically and mentally and are both still considered chick maggots – especially Dennis. “The Last Dance with the Whole Shebang” opens October 4th at the Pfiffner Building on the riverfront in Stevens Point. Curtain is 7:30 pm and beer will be sold to enhance the enjoyment of the audience and elevate the appreciation of the material.

Sweet Lips History

Formed in 1980 as a creative response to the limitations of local community theater, Sweet Lips has been on the stage ever since and they have plenty of splinters in their feet to prove it. Their early years were devoted to bringing audiences classical and contemporary comedies and dramas but it didn't take too long to realize that the effort involved in staging plays was more work and paid less than what they do now. What is it that they do? Well that is a little difficult to explain - original comedy and a prop box that fits neatly into the trunk of a Chevy Nova is a good start.
Six unlikely cohorts in comedy, Sweet Lips has been writing and performing two to three original comedy reviews a year for the last 22 years. The characters on stage are usually no different than those in the audience, which seems to be the key - "Real people making real people laugh." If you hang around long enough, you might even get a glimpse of yourself on stage in a compromising and often hilarious situation.

The troupe hails from Wisconsin's Portage County area and their loyal following has turned every performance into a must see social event to be shared with neighbors, friends, relatives and just about anyone in need of a good laugh. After damn near 30 years together, the cast members, most of whom were around from the start, have taken the advice of many and held on to their day jobs. They mix a healthy dose of music and singing into their act and it hasn't seemed to bother audiences without hearing impairments. Their plan is simple, keep audience members guessing by never knowing what is going to happen next, and it usually works.

Bring your neighbors and friends and be ready for a night that will be hard to explain when it's all over. One member of the group recommends taking two Advil prior to a performance to avoid sore cheeks brought on by your own unbridled laughter. We hope to meet you laughing at one of our future shows.
